A Shame to the legal apparel

So now India is placed on the Tier-2 Watch List by US for human trafficking for the 5th consecutive year. An ignominy, country fall shorts in taking effective measures in skirmishing it. The report says that the number of persons affected could be anywhere between 20 to 65 million. According to some estimates, the annual turnover of human trafficking in India is around 20 billion rupees. Traumatic is that out of the total number of persons affected by human trafficking, as many as 80 per cent are women and 50 per cent are children.
Human trafficking has turned to be the world's third largest illegal activity after smuggling of drugs and weapons. The causes of trafficking are obvious. Despite 60 years of independence, the benefits of economic development have not trickled down to the marginalised sections of the society. This makes society susceptible to human trafficking.  It continues to boom despite adequate legal provisions.
Article 23 under Part 3 (Fundamental Rights) of the Indian constitution prohibits trafficking of human beings in the territory of India. There are more than 20 provisions in the Indian Penal Code, 1860 which deal with various aspects of human trafficking. But despite all this, there exists an unfathomable droopiness in the approach of law enforcement agencies when it comes to dealing with human trafficking. The nexus and repercussions cannot be avoided.
What a dismay!! Government of India also fails till date in all its endeavour of combating this nuisance. Ministry of Women and Child Development was made the nodal agency by the government to deal with human trafficking in India.
The National Human Rights Commission was formulated to thwart human trading. But still the perpetuators escape reprimands. But these institutional clouts also flight in serving the purpose. Thanks to the dodges in the existing laws!! Where are we leading to?
